Today we are announcing the Competitor Intelligence Dashboard, a new feature in Answered that gives you a comprehensive, real-time view of how your competitors appear across AI answer engines. Until now, monitoring AI visibility has been primarily about tracking your own brand. With this release, competitive intelligence becomes a core part of the platform.

Why competitor intelligence matters in AI visibility

AI visibility is inherently competitive. When a user asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude to recommend a product in your category, the platform has to choose which brands to mention. Every mention of a competitor is a potential customer you did not reach. Every query where your competitor appears and you do not is a gap in your visibility strategy.

Until now, understanding your competitive position in AI search required manual, time-consuming work: individually querying each platform, documenting which competitors appeared, tracking changes over time, and trying to identify patterns. The Competitor Intelligence Dashboard automates all of this, giving you continuous competitive visibility with zero manual effort.

What the dashboard includes

Competitive citation tracking

The dashboard tracks how often each of your competitors is mentioned across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini for the queries that matter to your business. You can see citation frequency trends over time, identify which competitors are gaining or losing AI visibility, and understand which platforms favor which competitors.

Share of AI voice

Share of AI voice is a metric that shows what percentage of AI recommendations in your category mention your brand versus your competitors. This is the AI equivalent of share of voice in traditional media, and it gives you a clear, comparable measure of your competitive position.

For example, if there are five major competitors in your category and you have a 35% share of AI voice, that means your brand is mentioned in 35% of AI-generated responses when users ask about your category. This metric is tracked over time, so you can see whether your competitive position is strengthening or weakening.

Competitive sentiment analysis

The dashboard does not just track whether competitors are mentioned. It analyzes how they are described. For each competitor, you can see the sentiment of AI-generated descriptions, the specific strengths and weaknesses that AI platforms attribute to them, and how their positioning compares to yours.

This competitive sentiment data is invaluable for identifying positioning opportunities. If AI platforms consistently describe a competitor as "powerful but complex," and your product is known for simplicity, you have a clear differentiation angle that you can reinforce through your content and messaging strategy.

Gap analysis

The gap analysis view shows you exactly which queries your competitors appear in that you do not, and vice versa. This is perhaps the most actionable part of the dashboard because it identifies specific opportunities: queries where your competitors are being recommended and you are not, representing potential customers you are losing to competitors in the AI channel.

Each gap is tagged with the relevant AI platform, the competitor that appears, and a suggested priority level based on query volume and relevance to your business.

Competitive alerts

The dashboard includes configurable alerts that notify you when significant competitive changes occur. You can be alerted when a new competitor starts appearing in AI responses for your category, when an existing competitor's visibility significantly increases or decreases, or when AI platforms change how they describe a competitor's strengths or weaknesses.

How to use competitive intelligence effectively

Identify and prioritize gaps

Start with the gap analysis to identify the queries where you are absent but competitors are present. Prioritize these gaps based on business relevance: a query about a specific use case that drives high-value conversions is more important than a general category query that drives awareness.

Learn from competitor strategies

When a competitor has strong AI visibility, investigate why. What content have they published? What review presence do they have? What third-party coverage supports their brand? The competitive intelligence data, combined with your knowledge of your industry, can reveal strategies that you can adapt and improve upon.

Track the impact of your efforts

As you invest in improving your AI visibility through content, reviews, PR, and technical optimization, the Competitor Intelligence Dashboard allows you to track your progress not just in absolute terms, but relative to your competitors. This relative measurement ensures that you are not just improving but actually closing the gap.

Report competitive position to stakeholders

The dashboard provides export-ready data that you can include in board reports, quarterly reviews, and strategic planning sessions. Share of AI voice, competitive citation trends, and gap analysis are all metrics that stakeholders can understand and act on.

Availability

The Competitor Intelligence Dashboard is available now for all Answered customers. Starter plan accounts can track up to 3 competitors. Pro, Agency, and Enterprise accounts include expanded competitor tracking with custom limits. Sign up or log in to your existing account to start using it today.

What comes next

This release is the foundation for a deeper competitive intelligence capability that we will continue to build. Upcoming features on our roadmap include automated competitive content analysis, which will identify the specific content assets driving your competitors' AI visibility. We are also developing competitive benchmarking reports that compare your AI visibility performance against industry averages and top performers in your category.

We believe that competitive intelligence is essential to effective AEO strategy. You cannot optimize your AI visibility in a vacuum. You need to understand the competitive landscape, identify opportunities, and measure your progress relative to the brands you are competing against. The Competitor Intelligence Dashboard gives you the tools to do exactly that.
